Design and Technology

At St. Joseph’s Primary School, Design and Technology is not just a subject; it's a journey of exploration, inspiration, and transformation. Together, we embark on this exciting path, nurturing the designers and technologists of tomorrow.

We envision Design and Technology (D&T) as a cornerstone of our pupils' educational journey. Our vision for D&T is to foster a creative and innovative learning environment that empowers our pupils to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and confident creators of the future. Through D&T, we aim to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world, preparing them for future careers and challenges.

We use Kapow to teach Design and Technology.

In our D.T lesson 6 key areas are taught:

Structures,

Mechanisms,

Electrical systems (KS2),

Cooking and nutrition,

Textiles

Digital world (KS2)

Within each key area, the development of the core skills (design, make, evaluate) and technical knowledge ensures that progression is logical and achievable as pupils develop an appreciation for the product design, creation, and evaluation. We want pupils to develop the confidence to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others.
